Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out how are the student’s vocabulary abilities and to find out whether there is an effect of using jigsaw method in improving the students’ vocabulary ability in class X SMAN 4 Enrekang. The researcher used an experimental approach because researcher was apply the jigsaw method to improve vocabulary. The Population of this research is first-grade
students who study at SMAN 4 Enrekang academic year 2022-2023. The number population of this study is 242 students. In this study, researcher was use quantitative methods. The researcher takes the sample by using convenience sampling. In this research, the method used to be applied in this research is Quasiexperimental. The sample of this research is 71 student they are; X3 which consist
of 36 students and X4 which consist of 35 students. Result of the data analysis indicated that the students’ vocabulary ability of the experimental class at pre-test was classified into poor ability based on computation mean score was 45.77, then at post-test the mean score is very good 80.91, and the students’ vocabulary ability of the control class at pre-test was classified into poor ability based on computation mean score was 44.06 then at post-test the mean score is fair 56.50.The result of the T-test analysis by using SPSS the sig. value on the pre-test, post-test of the experimental showed that Sig. (2-tailed = 0,000) < 0,05, and control class showed
that Sig. (2-tailed = 0,002) < 0,05, so T-test value smaller than Sig. value 0,05 it can be concluded that the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) was accepted while Null Hypothesis (H0) was rejected, it means that there is effect of using jigsaw method to students’ vocabulary ability on the first grade at SMAN 4 Enrekang.
