Abstract

This study aims to compare the effects of the pocket method and the longline method on the productivity of Eucheuma cottoni seaweed growth in the waters of Totolisi Village, Majene Regency. The method used is a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with two treatments (P1 = pocket method, P2 = longline method) and 10 repetitions, resulting in a total of 20 experimental units. The Eucheuma cottoni seedlings used weighed 100 grams/bundle, in fresh and healthy condition. The cultivation period lasted for 21 days. Parameters measured included productivity, absolute growth (Wm), and specific growth rate (LPS). Data were analyzed using ANOVA and further T-test using SPSS version 26. The results showed that the pocket method was superior to the longline method. The average productivity of the pocket method reached 124.5 grams, while the longline method achieved 109 grams. The absolute growth (Wm) of the pocket method (57 ± 11.3 grams) was significantly higher than that of the longline method (17.8 ± 3.19 grams).Similarly, the specific growth rate (SGR) of the bag method (2.71 ± 0.54 grams) is higher compared to the longline method (0.85 ± 0.15 grams). The ANOVA results showed a significant effect between the two methods (Sig. 0.00 < 0.05), and the T-test confirmed a significant difference in absolute growth (39.2) and SGR (1.86). The bag method is more effective in increasing the productivity and growth of Eucheuma cottoni compared to the longline method. These findings can be taken into consideration in the development of seaweed cultivation for more optimal results.
