Penggunaan internet di rumah tidak hanya untuk hiburan seperti streaming video dan bermain game online, tetapi juga untuk keperluan pekerjaan, pendidikan, dan komunikasi, terutama di dunia Pendidikan dan pekerjaan, semenjak tahun 2020 berkomunikasi, bekerja, belajar secara virtual menjadi budaya yang sampai saat ini masih di lakukan, tentunya hal ini sangat berpengaruh terhadap penyedia layanan
internet. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membandingkan performa dan efektivitas kedua metode ini dalam konteks penggunaan internet di rumahan dengan melakukan analisis terhadap berbagai parameter seperti autentikasi, keamanan, resource, dan monitoring, diharapkan penelitian ini dapat memberikan rekomendasi yang lebih jelas bagi pengguna rumahan dalam memilih metode konfigurasi jaringan yang paling sesuai dengan kebutuhan mereka. Topologi yang dibangun dengan ISP dihubungkan ke router dan pada router dilakukan konfigurasi IP statis
dan PPPOE. Konfigurasi IP statis sederhana dengan menentukan IP statis pada port Ether3 yang akan menjadi sumber internet pada acces point dan konfigurasi acces point dalam mode acces point dengan IP statis dari ether 3. Client yang terhubung harus memasukkan IP address secara manual berdasarkan gateway Ether3. Konfigurasi PPPOE tidak se-sederhana IP statis dengan konfigurasi PPPOE server,
PPPOE profile dan PPPOE secret. Pada acces point mode router dan autentikasi PPPOE berdasarkan PPPOE profile yang telah dibuat dan acces point akan mendapatkan IP WAN dari PPPOE secret dan client yang terhubung tetap mendaptkan IP default dari acces point. Pengujian Kecepatan IP statis maupun PPPOE sama-sama di atas 50ms. Pengujian Ping antar perangkat pada IP statis maupun PPPOE dapat saling berkomunikasi dan beberapa timeout. Pengujian waktu autentikasi atau terkoneksi kembali PPPOE selisih 3 detik lebih lama dibandingkan IP statis karena acces point butuh autentikasi PPPoE profile terlebih dahulu. Pengujian net-cut client IP statis dapat terputus sedangkan client PPPOE tidak terputus. Pengujian beban kerja CPU dan RAM, PPPOE tinggi dengan beban CPU 59% dan RAM usage 23.1 Mb. Pada sisi monitoring IP statis tidak ada fitur monitoring sementara PPPOE terdapat fitur koneksi aktif dan interface pada winbox. PPPOE lebih cocok untuk akses internet rumahan walaupun beban kerja tinggi butuh waktu 22 detik untuk terkoneksi kembali.
The use of the internet at home is not only for entertainment such as video streaming and playing online games, but also for work, education, and communication purposes, especially in the world of education and work, since 2020 communicating, working, and learning virtually has become a culture that is still practiced until now, of course this has greatly affected internet service providers.
This study aims to compare the performance and effectiveness of these two methods in the context of home internet use by analyzing various parameters such as authentication, security, resources, and monitoring, it is hoped that this study can provide clearer recommendations for home users in choosing the network configuration method that best suits their needs. Statis IP configuration is simple by determining the statis IP on the Ether3 port that will be the internet source at the access point and the configuration of the access point in the access point mode with the statis IP of ether 3. The connected client must manually enter an IP address based on the Ether3 gateway. The PPPOE configuration is not as simple as statis IP with the PPPOE server, PPPOE profile and PPPOE secret configurations. In the router's access point mode and PPPOE authentication based on the PPPOE profile that has been created and the access point will get the WAN IP from the secret PPPOE and the connected client will still get the default IP of the access point. Statis IP and PPPOE speed tests are both above 50ms. Ping testing between devices on statis IP and PPPOE can communicate with each other and multiple timeouts. The PPPOE authentication or reconnection time test is 3 seconds longer than statis IP because the access point requires PPPOE profile authentication first. Statis IP client net-cut testing can be interrupted while PPPOE clients are not interrupted. Testing the CPU and RAM workload, PPPOE is high with a CPU load of 59% and RAM usage of 23.1 Mb. On the statis IP monitoring side, there is no monitoring feature while PPPOE has an active connection feature and interface on the winbox. PPPOE is more suitable for home internet access even though the workload is high and takes 22 seconds to reconnect
