Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan bagaimana kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematika siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 2 Majene pada materi Bentuk Aljabar. Desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah studi kasus dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Informan dalam penelitian ini adalah 6 siswa kelas VIII A SMP Negeri 2 Majene, yang dipilih 2 siswa dari masing-masing tingkat klasifikasi kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematika. Teknik keabsahan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah triangulasi sumber. Teknik analisis data meliputi, data deskripsi hasil tes tertulis dan hasil wawancara yang dianalisis kemudian ditarik kesimpulan.
Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa 1) siswa dengan kategori tingkat kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis tinggi telah mampu menguasai 7 dari 8 indikator, namun terdapat indikator yang belum dikuasai yaitu mengaitkan berbagai konsep dalam matematika maupun diluar matematika. 2) siswa dengan kategori kemampuan pemahaman sedang telah mampu menguasai 5 indikator, namun terdapat indikator yang belum dikuasai yaitu, menggunakan dan memanfaatkan serta memilih prosedur atau operasi tertentu, mengaitkan berbagai konsep dalam matematika maupun diluar matematika dan indikator menerapkan konsep secara logis. 3) siswa dengan kategori tingkat kemampuan pemahaman rendah masingmasing hanya mampu menguasai 1 indikatormemberikan contoh dan noncontoh dari
suatu konsep dan indikator menyajikan konsep dalam berbagai bentuk representasi matematika

This study aims to describe how the ability to understand mathematical concepts of grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 2 Majene on the material Algebraic Forms. The research design used is a case study with a qualitative approach. The informants in this study were 6 students of class VIII A SMP Negeri 2 Majene, who were selected by 2 students from each level of classification of mathematical concept comprehension ability. The data validity technique used in this study is source triangulation. Data analysis techniques include, descriptive data of written test results and interview results that are analyzed and then drawn conclusions. The results of this study show that 1) students with a high level of mathematical concept understanding ability have been able to master 7 indicators, but there are indicators that have not been mastered, namely applying the concept logically. 2) students with the category of moderate comprehension ability have been able to master 5 indicators, but there are indicators that have not been mastered, namely, using and utilizing and choosing certain procedures or operations, associating various concepts in mathematics and outside mathematics and indicators applying concepts logically 3) Students with a low level of comprehension ability are only able to master 1 indicator, each of which provides examples and nonexamples of a concept and the indicator presents concepts in various forms of mathematical representation.
