Abstract
This study aimed to determine the influence of skimming and scanning techniques in improving students' reading comprehension and to determine students' perceptions of the application of skimming and scanning techniques in improving students' reading comprehension. This study used a Quantitative research method, namely Quasi-Experimental. This study used two instruments, namely tests and
questionnaire. This study used a cluster random sampling technique in selecting the research sample, namely 2 classes as respondents, in this case, class X mipa 1 as the experimental class and class X mipa 2 as the control class. The total population consists of 266 students. The average student in Descriptive Statistics is 80.26. paired sample test shows that sig 2 tailed 0.000) < 0.05, so the t-test value was smaller than sig. This value is 0.05, so it can be said that the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted, whereas without (H0) it was rejected. Thus, there were differences in student scores between the experimental class (skimming and
scanning techniques) and the control class (conventional). Because there were significant differences, it can be said that skimming and scanning techniques were influenced in improving students' reading comprehension. While the average value was obtained based on data analysis from the questionnaire was 79.57%, so the results of students' perceptions of the skimming and scanning techniques of
class X SMAN 1 Majene have a positive perception category.
